EMDR Intensives

What are they?

EMDR Intensives are a chance for you to work one on one with Neeka for several hours a day, for several days in a row. We will work together to assess what time periods will work best for your needs and your budget.

What to Expect

A typical EMDR session will involve helping you activate the chosen memory and noticing what your body is experiencing, and then introducing some form of bilateral (back and forth) stimulation (ie, eye movements, tapping, pulsars, etc.) for a short time. We then pause, breathe, and notice. This cycle is then repeated, with some adjustments as needed, until the distress associated with the memory decreases. This usually allows a new way of viewing yourself or the situation to emerge, which opens new ways of living. Neeka will utilize a variety of treatment methods within your time together to support the EMDR healing process.

Benefits

People who have healed their trauma can live life more present, more connected with their loved ones, more free! They can be happier and healthier!

Intensive Therapy can allow someone to deeply focus on their healing, setting aside other life distractions for a short time, so that they can more quickly and efficiently achieve their goals.

Outpatient EMDR therapy can also be effective, but can be harder to tolerate. Life keeps going and every week in session, time is spent opening up the targeted trauma and then closing it back down. Clients often have to put a lot of effort into containing the trauma between sessions so that they can keep going on with daily life.

Intensives greatly minimize this because multiple targets can usually be completed within one day and the time between sessions is greatly reduced.

Dive Deeper

Intensives provide the opportunity to dive deeply into treatment without having to wait a week to continue the process. This can help you feel safer in the process.

Types of Intensives

Intensive days are 4-6 hours long based on client’s scheduling needs and stamina during the day.
All services begin with a telehealth assessment intake and then identify goals.

Extended Sessions
3-6 hours long, used for single incident traumas for people who had a basically good life but it’s been disrupted by a traumatic event.

Mini Intensives
Typically 8-20 hours of treatment. Effective for people with a few traumatic incidents or someone with a specific goal that is being blocked by past traumas. These can also be useful for doing some focused work to take some layers off of PTSD in the context of ongoing outpatient individual or couples therapy with Neeka or someone else.

Story Clearing Intensive
25-40 hours of treatment. Ideal for clients with multiple goals and the desire to clear childhood trauma. These are also appropriate for people with cPTSD and attachment wounds.

Intensives can be offered via telehealth or in person. However, even with telehealth, you must be in Rhode Island for appointments.
